CALISTOGA – 2018
Well, once again, hello. Wopbob 14 here.
Over the Labor Day weekend, 14 WRA members made the tow for the Annual Louis Vermeil Classic at the BIG ½ mile dirt track at Calistoga Speedway. WRA has been running at this event every year since the early 1990’s. Back then we ran with the NARC sprint cars. More recently we share the billing with USAC/CRA sprinters and midgets. We had enough cars to
run separate events for each class and got on the track twice both Saturday and Sunday. A great decision made by the track staff. A Good (but unidentified) Samaritan, calling himself the Cowboy Uber provided a 6 person golf cart and ferried any and all to and from the parking lots and also trips into town for shopping and such. Many thanks to him.
Those attending were: Tommy and Christine Bellifiore, Norm and Betty Gray, Paul and June Ferreira, Fred and Charlene Maydole, Don and Lynn Bartlett – with new driver David, Jess Todd, Don Strauch – with driver Vic, Mike Mosekian, Richard Scettrini, Leigh Knudson, Lynn Marston, Richard Forsberg, and me with Gloria. Newest WRA member (July) Bill Crowley brought his beautiful restoration – he is Walt James brother in law. All WRA members did themselves proud and put on a memorable show. Thanks to you all.
On a sad note, we learned that Howard Segur, Jr passed on August 18th at age 77. The racing world lost a good friend. Some of you may recall that Walt James drove Howard’s dad’s 270 Offy in many WRA events. Walt used to say that it was the best car he ever drove in his entire career. R.I.P. good friend.
All of you, please continue to support the WRA.
See you at the races – WOPBOB 14.
